THE AUSTRALIAN Security Medals Foundation Inc. (ASMF) has pledged over $250,000 in support for the Centre for Excellence in Security and Policing (CEPS) in its bid for the next round of funding.

“The ASMF Board believes that the important work of CEPS will contribute to raising professionalism and recognition of that professionalism in the wider community, and has, therefore, endorsed support for CEPS in the form of in-kind and cash contribution,” says Steve Jackson, ASMF Chairman.

“The ASMF is proud to able to contribute to the work of CEPS and work with not only the the highly-esteemed academics and researchers, but also the students who will be the future of security and policing in years to come.”

The aim of the partnership between ASMF and CEPS is to spotlight the importance of the private sectors’ contribution to the safeguarding Australia, and particularly to assist disseminate new knowledge and perspectives on the nexus between security and policing.

ASMF proposes to support collaboration with CEPS by funding, through in-kind and cash contributions, over seven years, which includes:

  • ASMF Directors contributing to  CEPS governance and events
  • Launching an ASMF/CEPS Research Student Award, to fund research and interviews overseas to support a high quality publication (in print or electronic form) that would contribute to public debate.
  • Annual ASMF Sponsored Industry Workshops, to promote closer cooperation and the transfer of knowledge between the research and corporate sectors.

“The ability to be able to support this kind of work is a testament to the generosity and support of the ASMF sponsors and their commitment to improving the image and the reality of the  security industry,” says Jackson.

The Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security (CEPS) was established in 2007 under the ARC Centres of Excellence special initiative to boost policing and security research capacity in Australia amid the growing complexity and internationalisation of transnational crime in the post 9/11 environment. Headquartered at Griffith University, the ARC Centre partnership includes The Australian National University, The University of Queensland, and Charles Sturt University. CEPS has developed numerous partnerships with industry partners, and Australian and international researchers.
