Ruddock Fellow announced

The Australian Security Medals Foundation has announced Codee Ludbey as the 2015 Philip Ruddock International Security Study Fellow.

The Foundation’s Patron, The Hon Philip Ruddock, awarded the Fellowship to Mr Ludbey at an event hosted by the new Vice Chancellor, Professor Steve Chapman, at Edith Cowan University, in Perth.

During the presentation, Mr Ruddock highlighted the importance of police, intelligence and security working together in order to protect Australia, especially when it comes to private security protecting critical infrastructure and the contribution of academia in raising standards.

“I have always recognised the need in the intelligence area to work with people who manage and control so much of our critical infrastructure. We need to have appropriate security in place and it needs to be an effective partnership,” said Mr Ruddock.

“We rely on the private sector to help and, I say, to partner.

“It is also important to have academic think about these issues and hep to ensure that we are at the forefront of those who are working in this area.”

The ASMF scholarship program plays an important role in encouraging young people in the industry, he added.

“Ultimately, academics need students. And, students who perform well need to have that recognised,” said Mr Ruddock. “We congratulate [Mr Ludbey] on his application and his success, and we wish him well, because younger people coming through taking leadership roles will be absolutely important for this nation and its future.”

ECU was selected to pilot the award, since its Centre for Aviation and Security Studies (CASS), which it operates in co-operation with Emirates Group Security, already provides travel scholarships for final year undergraduates

The head of CASS, Dr. Abdullah Al-Hashimi said: “The Emirates Group is very proud to be involved with ECU and the Foundation. We would like to congratulate Codee on his award and thank the Foundation and ECU. We look forward to a long and fruitful association with the initiative.”
